SPIE Matthew Hall is awarded a contract for the New Tyne Tunnel Fire Hydrant Mains System

2010/04/15

SPIE Fire Midlands Region has been awarded a prestigious fire protection contract by Bouygues Travaux Publics, valued in excess of €500,000 for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of fire hydrant mains system for the new Tyne Tunnel crossing.

This has been achieved in partnership with SPIE WHS, whose support has been critical to SPIE Fires success. In particular, our thanks go to Steve Henry and James Bellenie (SPIE WHS) who have worked closely with the SPIE Fire proposals team, and to Graham Rawlingson (SPIE Fire) who led the bid team.

The overall construction contract is valued at circa. €260m and is due for completion in February 2011, when the existing tunnel will be closed and refurbished over the next 12 months. The length of the tunnel is circa. 1.6 km and will ultimately become the southern portal with the existing tunnel serving the northern passage.

The contract award, in the face of fierce competition, demonstrates how effective partnership and cooperation between the SPIE UK businesses can be in adding value for clients, whilst maximising group revenues.
