EUROTUNNEL renews its confidence in SPIE

2008/09/15

After entrusting SPIE Ile-de-France Nord-Ouest with work worth nearly €2 million to enhance the safety of the wiring on passenger shuttles(*) in 2007, EUROTUNNEL is pursuing its policy of improving the operating reliability of its shuttles by replacing pneumatic pipes made of aluminium with stainless steel pipes.

This two-year contract, worth €6.5 million, has been awarded to SPIE Ile-de-France Nord-Ouest.

The services to be provided include:

  • on-site survey of pipes,
  • detailed engineering studies,
  • procurement of pipes and couplings (27 km of stainless steel pipes and 20,000 stainless steel couplings),
  • prefabrication of tubing,
  • on-site work to replace pipes.

These tasks will be performed jointly by:

  • the Industrie Littoral Nord department, for dismantling and reassembly work,
  • the Haute-Normandie office, for pipe forming work.

(*) The EUROTUNNEL passenger shuttles feature two types of train set: one with single-decker wagons for coaches, minibuses, caravan and vehicles more than 1.85 m high, and the other with double-decker wagons for cars and motorcycles. In normal circumstances, a shuttle can carry 12 high-capacity coaches and 120 cars.
