SPIE Belgium was awarded a preventive and corrective maintenance contract for electromechanical equipment on the E40/E25 motorway junction, better known as the Cointe Tunnel.
SPIE Belgium provides several technical services, including dynamic traffic lights, vehicle counting systems, remote management, radio relaying, remote management of street lighting, CCTV (fixed and mobile surveillance cameras) and the metropolitan area network (MAN).
In all, nearly 12.5 km of motorway will be monitored 24/7. The cameras will help the operator detect any potential problems on the motorway junction. Also facilitating this task is the Automated Incident Detection system, which uses various algorithms to trigger an alarm in case of accident or stopped traffic. The operator can then take appropriate action and adapt road signs to close a traffic lane or the entire tunnel. The comprehensive remote management system sends systematic reports to SPIE following any technical problems (broken lamps, road sign malfunction).
