The Toul-Rosières solar power plant (Meurthe-et-Moselle) was designed, developed and built by EDF Énergies Nouvelles. The company will also handle the operation and maintenance of the facility for an initial period of 20 years.
This massive solar power plant occupies the former Toul-Rosières air base. Equipped with 1.4 million solar panels measuring 1.20m x 0.60m each and providing a maximum power of 115 MWp (megawatts-peak), it will remain the world’s largest solar power plant until 2014.
For the construction of this power station, EDF Energies Nouvelles turned to SPIE for:
- electrical engineering studies and optimisation of voltage drops,
- laying cable to connect 750,000 panels, representing:
- 39 km of trenchwork,
- 900 km of cable,
- 15,667 prefabricated cable bundles.
- installation of low-voltage cabinets (1,120 cabinets) and splice boxes (1,500 boxes),
- connection to the 33 kV high-voltage network,
- tests and commissioning of the power plant.
In all, SPIE covered 55% of the plant’s services in its businesses. The entire project employed over a hundred people between June 2011 and February 2012, representing more than 100,000 hours of labour.
Contributing to the green economy
The power station produces enough electricity to meet the annual energy needs of some 55,000 households, while reducing annual CO2 emissions by approximately 4,600 tonnes.
