Maastricht, 18th July, 2018 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has started preparations for the installation of a power supply for events held on Maastricht’s Vrijthof square. To this end, SPIE is installing the Netherlands’ very first underground transformer substation.
The new power supply on the Vrijthof must be installed in time for the traditional start of the carnival season (on 11/11). The challenge for SPIE is to lay more than 660 metres of new electricity cabling under the cobblestones and to install the underground transformer substation. The work can only start after the Preuvenemint food fair at the end of August. SPIE is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance operations required for the set-up, completion and maintenance of the system and related activities, without impeding traffic.
Harold Engwegen, manager of SPIE Nederland’s TechFM business unit, is looking forward to this extraordinary contract: “Maastricht is developing at a rapid pace, with numerous initiatives and urban planning originating from inside and outside the town. Maastricht places high demands on the quality of its facilities. We are really pleased with the trust shown in SPIE to get this job done quickly and with top quality.”
