Floating between sea and sky at the entrance of Marseille’s Vieux Port, the Museum of the Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean (MuCEM) was inaugurated in June 2013. Marseille is one of the European Capitals of Culture in 2013, and the MuCEM is the flagship project of this campaign.
SPIE handled all the MuCEM’s high-voltage installations: from the high-voltage distribution substation to the accent lighting for the museum’s façade.
SPIE also took charge of the museum’s security by installing access control, fire safety and video security systems.
After three years of work, SPIE’s involvement in the project is not finished. The group is now managing the operation and maintenance of the MuCEM’s technical equipment, including all of its electrical installations and HVAC systems.
This strategic project notably involves underwater work to pump water from the Mediterranean.
SPIE will also guarantee high-performance cold and heat production for the MuCEM and the neighbouring Villa Méditerranée.
