Essen, Germany, January 3rd, 2017 – SPIE GmbH, a subsidiary of the SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been commissioned with facility management for the Elbphilharmonie concert hall complex in Hamburg. Regular operations began on 1 November 2016.
With its bold, wave-like rooftop, the Elbphilharmonie rises up from the historical Kaispeicher building on the western tip of the HafenCity development in Hamburg. It accommodates two concert halls, an area for music education with its own concert hall, a hotel, bars and restaurants, as well as apartments. The meeting point between the old and new structures is home to a generous, publicly accessible platform – the Plaza.
SPIE's client is the property Management Company ADAMANTA Grundstücks-Vermietungsgesellschaft mbH & Co. – Objekt Elbphilharmonie KG. The general contractor agreement with SPIE has been concluded for a term of 20 years and four months.
The services to be performed by SPIE include technical, infrastructural and commercial facility management and ensuring the functionality of the public areas and parts of the hotel, the parking garage, the concert halls and the bars and restaurants.
The technical data sets new records:
- The Tube is the world's first curved escalator, and one of the longest in Europe at 82 metres. It is cooled using water from the Elbe River and deep wells, with a flow rate of around 130 cubic metres an hour.
- The ventilation systems supplying fresh air to the Grand Hall have a capacity of 130,000 cubic metres an hour.
- Water tanks are installed throughout the building for fire protection, feeding up to 400 cubic metres of water to the sprinkler systems via more than 20 valve stations.
The whole thing is controlled using integrated facility management systems that are also managed by SPIE GmbH.
The opening concerts for the Elbphilharmonie will be held on 11 and 12 January 2017 and invited guests from around the world will have the opportunity to enjoy the outstanding acoustics and unique atmosphere of the new concert hall complex. The Plaza, hotel, bars and restaurants of the spectacular new building were opened on 4 November 2016.
