The Netherlands, Breda, July 11th, 2017 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has announced its intention to acquire Ziut B.V. (“Ziut”), the Dutch market leader in public lighting. On July 10th, SPIE Nederland signed a protocol with Ziut’s shareholders, controlled by Dutch distribution network operators Alliander and Enexis Group, to acquire the company, subject to prior consultation of the Works Councils of SPIE Nederland, Ziut and its two shareholders and to the approval of the Dutch antitrust authorities.

Headquartered in Arnhem, Ziut is an expert in the installation, management and maintenance of public lighting, traffic control systems and video surveillance. The company provides cities with innovative and smart solutions that have long-term beneficial impacts on energy consumption, security, and environmental issues faced by its customers. Ziut employs approximately 440 people and generated revenue of €114 million in 2016.

With this acquisition, SPIE Nederland will significantly scale up its capabilities in the growing Smart city market. Subject to finalizing the consultations and obtaining the antitrust approval, the acquisition shall be completed before year-end.

Over the recent past, SPIE has made a name for itself on the Dutch Smart city market, and has strong ambitions in this field. Ziut is a company with solid, long-term customer relationships, and a fresh approach to new technology that fits well with SPIE’s innovative nature.”

Ton Schols, Managing Director of Ziut, said: “Ziut’s and SPIE’s visions integrate seamlessly with each other and our abilities are complementary. The collaboration with SPIE enables us to deepen and broaden our services and to further strengthen our social responsibility.”
