SPIE guides the municipality of Schagen towards energy efficicency neutrality

More than 11,000 light fixtures will be fitted with energy-efficient LED lighting

Rotterdam, May 14th, 2018 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, will replace more than 11,000 public lighting fixtures throughout the municipality of Schagen with modern LED lighting. This major operation will reduce CO2 emissions, energy consumption and energy costs, bringing Schagen a step closer to becoming a fully sustainable and energy neutral municipality.

In a smart municipality as Schagen, public lighting is of major concern. It adds atmosphere, a feeling of social security, and increases road safety. The municipality has thus chosen SPIE, through its Ziut subsidiary, to replace more than 11,000 light fixtures and 640 lampposts. The operation will also include light calculations, light measurements and the replacement of 11 switch boxes.

The lighting quality within the current area, particularly in urban neighbourhoods, shows significant differences. A large portion of the light fixtures have exceeded their usual life span resulting in various malfunctions and failures, much to the annoyance of residents. In the coming year, the outdated, non-energy-efficient lighting will be replaced, which will reduce the costs of repairs, CO2 emissions, energy consumption and energy costs.

Bert Rijsdijk, business unit manager at SPIE Nederland, is looking forward to this collaboration: “It’s not often that we get to replace such a large number of light fixtures in one go. SPIE is happy to contribute to making the municipality more sustainable.
