SPIE installs electrotechnical infrastructure at Eschborn’s new emergency centre

Eschborn, October 24, 2019 - SPIE is installing the entire electrotechnical infrastructure for the modern emergency centre in Eschborn near Frankfurt am Main. In November 2018, the independent European leader for multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications won the public contract for the new building, which is being built on a site of more than 16,000 square meters. Work began in April 2019 and is expected to be completed by early 2020.

Extensive installations in the field of electrical engineering

The scope of services includes all electrical and safety installations as well as switchgear engineering. SPIE is thus responsible for the manufacture of the main distribution and sub-distribution systems, lighting, the voice alarm system, the fire alarm system, media technology, the data network and lightning protection. Access control and blinds, for example, are controlled via KNX technology. In addition, the multi-technical service provider is building the main supply including the emergency generator.

Rescue teams must always be prepared for a mission; a power failure could cost vital time. In order to ensure an uninterruptible power supply under any circumstances, we have installed an emergency power supply system,” says Michael Wirths, Project Manager at SPIE Pulte, the company responsible for this order within SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa. For this major project, 850 lighting fixtures, 500 smoke detectors, 230 loudspeakers as well as 110 kilometres of cables and wires will be installed. The work should be completed in a total of just ten months. Wirths explains: “We work closely with main contractors, planners and subcontractors. Thanks to a smooth cooperation, we are well on schedule and will complete the project as planned in the first quarter of 2020. We can rely on each other - which is important!

A new centre to meet urgent needs

The emergency centre in Eschborn consists of two new buildings: a fire station for the Eschborn volunteer fire brigade and a rescue station for the Main-Taunus district with additional premises for the Workers’ Samaritan Federation (Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund [ASB]). The latter will accommodate civil protection and social services in particular. The current premises of the various emergency services have become too small over time to be able to adequately operate and store equipment. In future, the emergency centre will provide space for 25 fire engines, 3 rescue service vehicles and 11 Workers’ Samaritan Federation vehicles. In addition, there will be dormitories for 24-hour stand-by, storage rooms for crisis operations, a kitchen for meals on wheels as well as training rooms and offices.
