• Deutsche Lufthansa is extending its long-standing cooperation with SPIE for the Lufthansa Aviation Training Centre (LATC) in Frankfurt for another five years.
• As a multi-technical services provider, SPIE impresses with a tailored “predictive maintenance” approach to cut the running costs in facility management.
• A permanent team supervises the property on-location and ensures high availability of the facilities where pilots and flight attendants are trained and educated.
Frankfurt, March 28th, 2018 – SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa is continuing to take on facility management for the Lufthansa Aviation Training Centre (LATC) in Frankfurt. Deutsche Lufthansa is already extending the running contract for another five years, one year before it expires. As a result, SPIE is still in charge of the supervision of the training and education centre for pilots and flight attendants after 17 years of successful cooperation.
Cooperation at the Frankfurt location since 1999
From fire protection and air conditioning to facility management – since being commissioned in 1999, SPIE has been responsible for technical and infrastructural facility management of the training and education centre. A permanent on-location team takes on the management of the property. It has continuously grown over the years with the expansion and modification of the site. “From the first day, we ensured power supply management and air conditioning, among other things. Thanks to the long-standing work of our on-location team, we know the property very well – that is our advantage. As a result, we recognise the optimisation potential for our customers and implement it,” says Sascha Beier, responsible Project Manager for the LATC at SPIE.
“The SPIE team has been allowed to shape the site considerably over the last 17 years and continues to contribute to the efficient use of the buildings and facilities – even for the future. For example, we are consistently implementing the approach for data-based “predictive maintenance”. It helps to reduce operating costs for customers and ensures high availability of the facilities at the same time,” says Timo Vogtmann, Branch Manager at SPIE. Potential failures are identified early, thus contributing to a longer use of the facilities.
High availability of the facilities for training and education of pilots and flight attendants
Pilots and flight attendants are trained in the LATC and undergo compulsory tests several times per year. Theory and practice are taught in 51 seminar rooms and with 22 flight simulators. Aside from mock-ups for service training, an on-site swimming pool is available for emergency drills, e.g. to simulate emergency landings on water. “We take care of the smooth and safe operation of technical facilities on-site and ensure that they are always available,” says Sascha Beier. This also includes the media connection of the electrical and air conditioning supply by SPIE during the reconfigurations of flight simulators. To ensure high availability of the facilities, the team works round the clock because the flight simulators and seminar rooms are in constant use. They are sometimes used by external companies, too. “By renewing our contract one year early, Lufthansa demonstrates its trust in our team. We look forward to the coming projects and the opportunity to continue to optimise the property in the area of building management,” says Sascha Beier.
