Multitechnical service provider wins 15-year contract
Berlin, September 7th, 2017 – What is the quality of the water in Wannsee lake? Is there a contagious disease going around at Neukölln zoo? What are school children in Zehlendorf suddenly having an allergic reaction to? Answers to such questions are provided by analyses conducted by the state laboratory of Berlin-Brandenburg (LLBB). As from spring 2019, the employees will be performing their official examinations in a new and ultra-modern building complex in the science city of Adlershof. Multi-technical services provider SPIE will ensure that all operations run smoothly.
The topping-out ceremony for the new building in the technology hub of Adlershof took place on June 20th – work is progressing according to schedule. Modern laboratories of various safety levels, offices, a library, common and technical areas, as well as parking areas and a cafeteria are being built on four floors, spanning an area of over 22,000 square metres. When the roughly 500 LLBB employees who are currently working in an old building on Invalidenstraße relocate to the new building at the beginning of 2019, they will find an advanced infrastructure. This applies to the laboratories, with safety levels one to three, and to the administration.
Service and maintenance of the complex technology in the new building requires expertise and experience. To this end, builder-owner and future landlord HOCHTIEF has concluded a contract with multi-technical services provider SPIE. “The contract will run for 15 years of operation. But given that we are already integrated in the certification during the construction phase and test operation, it is effectively extended to almost 18 years,” explains Thomas Jedtke, Head of Sales at SPIE. He adds: “Maintaining such a high-tech building is a complex challenge.” After all, the employees assigned by SPIE to take care of the building services have to ensure that everything runs smoothly at all times, from the gas supply for the laboratories to the communication technology, heating, power supply and lighting, all the way to fire protection systems and access control. For this, SPIE relies on its extensive experience, for example with the operation of university hospitals, the Helmholtz Institute or the University of Dresden.
