Press release
In 2008, SPIE Nucléaire successfully exported its maintenance expertise to the UK
During the Sizewell nuclear power plant's last shutdown, a team of about 20 technicians from SPIE Nucléaire carried out valve maintenance operations on site. The plant operator, British Energy, had entrusted Areva with all mechanical maintenance work at the Sizewell site.
In this context, Areva awarded SPIE Nucléaire a contract worth more than €500,000 to carry out the valve maintenance work within a tight schedule which meant organising shifts working six days a week. Thanks to very good preparation, ideal working conditions (from the radiological and organisational points of view) and, above all, the dedication of SPIE Nucléaire's personnel, British Energy was able to establish a new record - with a shutdown time of just 25 days. The success of this work was the key to a five-year contract (2009-2013) that Areva has now secured and, already, our teams are planning for the next Sizewell shutdown (in late 2009).
