Press release
The city of Berne entrusts the security of its Internet network to SPIE ICS and United Security Providers

Emmenbrücke, 1 October 2015 - SPIE ICS is increasingly focusing on the protection of Web applications and portals. Now, for the city of Berne, the firm has implemented the USP Secure Entry Server® (USP SES), a security solution developed by United Security Providers.

The software was installed for this customer as part of the renewal of the DMZ (demilitarised zone) and its extension to cover two new data centres in the network infrastructure. At the same time, the DMZ and associated zone concept had to be modernised. The USP Secure Entry Server solution has made it possible to update technical and security aspects, and meet customers' new requirements in full. Zones and junctions between zones have been equipped with new security components (IP firewall, Web application firewall and intrusion detection/prevention systems). Thanks to these tools, the city of Berne can withstand attacks to its numerous Web applications via the Internet.

SPIE ICS has been supplying the city of Berne with solutions for a long time. It implemented the USP SES developed by United Security Providers, the Swiss information security specialist, after assessing it to be the best solution for the project concerned. By working with SPIE ICS, the customer is guaranteed complete security of the information and data accessible via the Web applications and portals.

"Contrary to other security products we tested, the USP SES covers all the city of Berne's needs. The solution has all the characteristics of a latest generation firewall designed for Web applications, and also meets customers' complex needs thanks to flexible, powerful and unique authentication," said Yves Schlösslin, Director of Operations at SPIE ICS. He added: "The USP SES is a software solution 100% developed in Switzerland, which the customer also likes, as users in the administrative and financial sectors increasingly appreciate the 'Swiss made' aspect."

Anton Berni, Head of Communications and Information Systems for the city of Berne, expressed his satisfaction with the new security solution: "We are convinced of the quality of the USP SES and will, in the future, continue to extend its scope of use. It is precisely the security solution we need, given the expected evolution of the city of Berne's E-Government scheme, and integrates perfectly with all areas of our IT strategy."
