N.V. Nuon Energy commissioned SPIE Nederland B.V. for assistance in developing a CO2 capture pilot plant based on pre-combustion technology.
At the plant, CO2 is captured from the synthesis gas flow originating from the Nuon coal and bio mass gasification process. With the CO2 Catch-up project, Nuon aims to demonstrate pre-combustion CO2 capture on a large scale at its Eemshaven-based Nuon Magnum plant in the North of the Netherlands. Uniting a multi-disciplinary team, SPIE-Controlec Engineering and SPIE-Industry executed the project as part of a contract that includes engineering, procurement and construction. The trial period is expected to take two years, with a total € 40 million investment.
