Zoom on App and No/Low-code

Published on 06 August 2025

See how powerful tools can be when you don't have to write any code, or almost none, with Serge Jaumain from SPIE Global Services Energy and a presentation of selected projects.

Application (App) development and no/low-code platforms enable rapid software creation with minimal handcoding. Apps are software designed to perform specific functions for users across devices. No/low-code platforms provide visual development environments, allowing users to build applications through graphical user interfaces and simple logic. This significantly lowers the barrier to app development and empowers nontechnical users to contribute to software solutions.

How do these new digital tools improve on your work?

Today, a lot of inspection processes involve paper forms that need to be filled in and handed in for checks and validations before they are transcribed and, ultimately, entered in a digital format. Using Ermeo streamlines this process: it’s a Platform-as-a-Service application that provides a low-code/no-code framework to develop inspection apps that can be used in the field, including offline. It’s quite easy to, for instance, create input forms that users can fill in by dictating contents and add photos to, which generates a digital report that is directly sent to the next validation stage. With the rise of digital twins and AI tools, having digital and interactive formats is very valuable!

Can you share some examples of tasks or processes using these applications?

We developed several applications, notably for Construction Progress Tracking. They provide accurate, realtime progress reports on all project tasks, enabling us to quickly address any issues and reschedule tasks if necessary. Ermeo can also manage complex workflows on very large projects, e.g. to carry out inspections (HSE, maintenance readings, safety checks, etc.) from a tablet while interfacing with 5 different oil platforms.

What kinds of benefits have you experienced from incorporating these applications?

Depending on the process, we see productivity increases of 15 to 25%. Quality-wise, the apps make information easier to trace and more legible compared to manual data entry. It also means better version control and getting a real-time view of inspection tasks.

Healthcare Media App – Netherlands

The Healthcare Media app gives patients bedside control over entertainment, climate, meals, and communication during their stay. Meanwhile, the app saves time for nursing staff by digitalising non-medical tasks.

"Connecting non-medical tasks to facility and service personnel frees up considerable time for nursing staff in care environments." Eric SCHILTMANS, Account manager Business Development Zorgmedia at SPIE Nederland.

IT carbon footprint analytics – France

Estimating the carbon footprint of IT infrastructures (e.g. data centres, networks, workspaces) is complex and time-consuming, but also necessary for organisations seeking to build a low-carbon path. To meet this challenge, SPIE ICS developed the Carbon Footprint Audit & Monitoring Dashboard. Not only does this smart tool automate the calculations, but the algorithm also chooses the calculation method best suited to the available data. Running analyses at the component level results in much more accurate estimates than existing solutions. Moreover, estimates are accompanied by indicators specifying the quality of the data as well as the level of certainty assigned to the result.

The Digital Hub - France

SPIE CityNetworks’ digital transformation is based on the implementation of a Digital Hub across the subsidiary of 5,000+ users to improve performance, from safety to efficiency and quality of service.

"Our transformation aims to harmonise, simplify, and streamline business processes while giving production and customers the tools they need." Daniel BEAUBOUCHEZ, Digitalisation and innovation manager at SPIE Facilities (France).

Plate Reader – Germany

Facility management contracts begin with start-up services, which include cataloguing all systems (e.g. ventilation systems) in a property based on their type plates. However, these can be hard to reach and often feature non-standardised information. The SPIE Plate Reader prototype, an OCR-based app with drag-and-drop information extraction, was designed to streamline this time-consuming but crucial process by automating plate recognition. Following positive test feedback in various business areas, the app will evolve to automatically input data into Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) systems and eliminate media discontinuity.

Energisme platform – France

Energisme is an off-the-shelf platform to manage energy consumption across SPIE contracts. It is linked with French gas and power distributors to automate monitoring through smart metering, with a comprehensive set of features including invoice analysis, manual metre readings, and IoT data collection. Users can also configure customised dashboards for real-time monitoring.
