A new contract in Romania for SPIE Rail
Compagnie Nationale des Chemins de Fer Roumains (CFR SA) has awarded a contract to overhaul the catenaries and electric power supply system for the Campina-to-Predeal section of Trans-European Corridor IV to a consortium formed by SPIE Rail and ISAF SA. This €13.4 million contract, part-funded by the European Union, is part of a major project to modernise the east-west rail corridor that runs through Romania, linking the Black Sea port of Constanta to northern Germany. The work, which is scheduled to last 40 months (excluding breaks during the winter), involves totally renovating the catenaries along almost 40 km of track and modernising two 110 kV / 25 kV traction substations. This is the third contract awarded by CFR to SPIE Rail for this type of work since 2001. The new order confirms the status of SPIE Rail, the consortium leader, as a major player in the renovation of the Romanian rail network, much of which is still to be upgraded within the framework of the European Corridor modernisation programme.
