Another new record in Germany: Over 500 apprentices and dual students launch their careers at SPIE in 2024

Ratingen, 8 October 2024 – SPIE, the independent European leader for multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has set another training record in 2024: More than 500 apprentices and dual students recently launched their careers there. This marks an increase of 13 percent compared to the previous year. The junior staff members are set to embark on their vocational training paths in a total of 36 different industrial-technical and commercial apprenticeships at 90 locations. There are also ten dual bachelor’s degree programs.

SPIE is currently training around 1,300 tech-savvy talents in all eight divisions to respond to market demands early on,” explains Bianca Stöhr, Head of People and Culture and member of the SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria management board. “Competition for junior staff remains fierce across all sectors, which is why we are delighted that so many young talents have chosen to work with us.”

The majority of apprenticeships are in the fields of plant mechanics, energy and building engineering, electronics, industrial mechanics, IT systems electronics, instrumentation and recycling and waste management. “Starting a career with us is an investment in the future, as climate protection and digitalisation are two of the most urgent challenges of our time,” emphasises Bianca Stöhr. As a multi-technical service provider, SPIE is part of the solution and works hard every day to design and implement reliable, technological answers to the major social issues surrounding sustainability and digitalisation today.

“Our clear positioning and our continuous, successful growth make us an especially attractive employer for our nearly 20,000 employees and countless potential candidates. In 2023 alone, we were able to secure around 3,000 new specialists. Over 30 percent of these individuals were recruited via our SPIE referral program: ‘Gute Leute kennen gute Leute’ (‘Good People Know Good People’). Our voluntary turnover rate remains consistently well below six percent. We fill two out of every three leadership positions from within our own ranks,” says Markus Holzke, Managing Director of SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria. “I’m particularly pleased to report that this year we were once again able to break the record we set in 2023 for the number of new apprentices hired.”

SPIE honours its best apprentices each year at its major customer and employee event. This year’s awards ceremony took place as part of the ONE SPIE on Tour event in September at the EUREF Campus in Berlin (photo).
