Cergy, 21 September 2023 – SPIE Oil & Gas Services, an international subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been awarded a contract by TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East Africa (DG MEA). Under this contract, SPIE is responsible for providing operation and maintenance services for distributed generation projects in Dubai, which are part of TotalEnergies DG MEA's portfolio. As a contractor in charge of more than 15 MW of power capacity, SPIE is aiming to ramp up over the contract duration.
Over the term of this three-year contract, SPIE Oil & Gas Services will provide the preventive and corrective maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) installations by:
- monitoring the electricity production performance of all sites in real time,
- implementing a preventive maintenance programme for the installations, including the deployment of next-generation robots to optimise and improve the cleaning of PV panels,
- undertaking corrective measures if the installations are under-performing, with a view to maintaining them at an optimal level of electricity production.
Under the contract, SPIE Oil & Gas Services is mobilising a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
Diversification into renewable energies
This contract is the result of the joint efforts of teams from the SPIE group and SPIE Oil & Gas Services in the Middle East. The Group's expertise in renewable energies and in particular solar installations, coupled with the presence of SPIE Oil & Gas Services in the United Arab Emirates for more than 30 years, made all the difference when it came to winning this contract.
SPIE Oil & Gas Services has also made a name for itself with its ability to manage the performance of electrical installations through the deployment of maintenance experts and its commitment to safety. Indeed, prevention is at the heart of the Group’s business and continuous actions are implemented to achieve its "zero severe accident objective": safety management training, workshops and focus groups, as well as preventive observation visits to sites.
"This contract is a double success. The project is part of our diversification strategy into renewable energies. It also allows us to support the local entity of a long-standing customer committed to the energy transition, we are extremely proud of it," indicates Camil Fernandez, SPIE Oil & Gas Services representative in the United Arab Emirates.
"The fact that we have won contracts for projects in offshore wind power off the Normandy coast in France, hydrogen in Asia-Pacific and now PV energy in the Middle East, reveals the confidence that our customers have in our ability to leverage our 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry to serve the renewable energy sector," states Christophe Bernhart, Managing Director of SPIE Oil & Gas Services.
