Ergolding, 27 May 2021 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, was engaged by EWE Go, a provider for new mobility concepts, following a Europe-wide tender to maintain and manage faults in the nationwide charging infrastructure for electric vehicles with a focus on HPC (high-power charger) stations. SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, the German subsidiary of SPIE, assumed responsibility for maintenance and service in April for a term lasting several years.
Nationwide operations with certified teams
In the north-west of Germany, EWE Go has a dense charging network with more than 900 charging points. All charging stations are operated with 100% green electricity. In the coming years, EWE Go is going to expand this network across Germany with more than 1,000 further charging points. To ensure smooth operations, a high level of availability is absolutely essential. As a technical service provider and expert in full-service charging solutions for e-mobility, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa and its CityNetworks & Grids operational division offer extensive expertise – from more than 7,000 charging points installed in Germany up to nationwide fault management.
By winning this contract, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa will be responsible for maintaining and servicing all existing and future charging points throughout the country. In addition, the multi-technical service provider offers a hotline to ensure a high level of availability as well as the rapid rectification of faults that are reported. “For the best possible cooperation and a high degree of process efficiency, we are implementing a customer-specific service portal,” explained Pascal Vermaten, Head of Key Account Management for the Energy & Mobility Solutions branch, in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division. In order to provide the appropriate service for the sophisticated technology in the high-power chargers, the teams from SPIE received intensive training. “Our technicians were instructed on the technical requirements by the manufacturer Alpitronic and received corresponding certificates,” said Pascal Vermaten.
Trusting partnership
The cooperative partnership between EWE Go and SPIE was established over two years ago: “We got to know SPIE as a professional technical service provider and have already worked together successfully on setting up, installing and commissioning our charging stations,” reported Till Horstkamp, responsible for Technical Operations – Service and Maintenance at EWE Go. “That is why we are so pleased to also put service and maintenance in SPIE’s reliable hands. We are delighted to have a competent and experienced partner like SPIE by our side.”
Thanks to the close cooperation of recent years, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa already has detailed knowledge of the systems. “The experience that we have already gained from setting up charging stations will also stand us in good stead for servicing in future,” said Pascal Vermaten. “We are very proud that EWE Go has thereby reiterated its faith in us.”
High degree of expertise for the mobility transition
“We have been involved in establishing the charging infrastructure for electric mobility virtually from the word go. We support numerous other customers with the planning and installation as well as the operation and maintenance of charging stations for electric vehicles throughout Germany,” said Dietmar Bogerl, Head of the Energy & Mobility Solutions branch in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division. As a result, one of SPIE’s focus areas is the mobility transition as well as the associated holistic implementation of charging infrastructures. “We are convinced that the availability and reliable operation of the charging infrastructure is the prerequisite for gaining acceptance for the new drive form in society,” said Dietmar Bogerl in conclusion.
