Breda, 10 March 2021 – SPIE Nederland, the independent European leader for multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has developed, on behalf of the Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management), a new asset management system. Its set-up was conducted over a period of 9 months. This system facilitates, among other things, the transition from corrective to preventative maintenance. After a successful audit, certification agency Dekra awarded SPIE with the ISO 55001 certificate.
SPIE uses this asset management system in the field services contract of the Rijkswaterstaat, for which SPIE maintains more than 4,500 kilometres of fibre optic cable and around 70,000 network components nationwide. These represent a vital infrastructure for the country, guaranteeing the availability and accessibility of tunnels, bridges, locks, barriers, shipping routes, roads and offices.
After a 9 months period during which the organization and processes of the asset management system were elaborated and implemented in close cooperation with the Rijkswaterstaat team, SPIE started its work in September 2020. Until January, the team was given time to prepare for Dekra’s audit of the asset management system. SPIE succeeded in this with flying colours and, with its management system, meets the international standard ISO 55001.
Business Unit Manager at SPIE Nederland, John Besamusca said: “I am very proud of the team. Not only we are the first company in the Netherlands to achieve this certification in the area of connectivity, but we also fulfil our promise of being able to demonstrably create value from the digital assets of the Rijkswaterstaat. We will continue to innovate in the area of processes and services in order to contribute to our customer’s ambitious goals.”
ISO 55001 is an asset management system standard whose main objective is to help companies manage the life cycle of their assets more effectively. By implementing ISO 55001, they have a better control over their day-to-day operations, achieve better return on their assets and reduce the total cost of risk.
