Over 300 apprentices and dual students launch their careers at SPIE

Ratingen, 7 October 2019 – Around 300 young people joined SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa this summer to embark on their vocational training. The independent European leader for multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications offers tech-savvy talents a variety of career opportunities. With a total of 28 apprenticeship occupations and eight dual study programmes, SPIE is training its own junior staff at more than 90 locations to work together with customers that make energy transition a reality and shape digital transformation. Further training is promoted: even after an apprenticeship, SPIE invests in its staff and supports the need for lifelong learning with its SPIE Academy and a variety of external training opportunities.

Markus Holzke, Managing Director of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa: "We are very proud that around 300 young talents have chosen SPIE this year. We are especially delighted that, once again, we have been able to increase the number of trainees compared to the previous year (278 in 2018). Our new apprentices and dual students can expect an exciting time where they will learn a lot. We wish them success on their career path with SPIE".

Wide variety of job profiles

SPIE aims to get young tech-savvy people committed to the business early on, and to give talented graduates a promising perspective at SPIE. In Germany alone, SPIE offers 28 different apprenticeship occupations and several options for a dual degree programme: from apprenticeships to plant mechanic, draughtsman, electronics technician or mechatronics technician to dual studies for a Bachelor in energy and building technology, supply engineering, technical facility management or business information technology. "We hire our experts early on, train them to meet the specific needs of our business and continue to qualify them after their training. As a multi-technical service provider, we offer an enormous variety of apprenticeship occupations and job profiles for launching a career – so anyone with a passion for technology can enjoy it to the fullest", according to Maximilian Schrenner, Head of Recruitment and Training at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa.

Investment in training infrastructure

Along with promoting young talents, SPIE is continually expanding its infrastructure for education. At the SPIE site Ergolding, near Landshut, a new training workshop for electrical and mechanical vocational training was set up for about half a million euros. "Our education is constantly evolving. In 2016, we had 20 apprentices - since September 2019, we have been educating 71 young people in six different occupations with five trainers at the Ergolding site," says Markus Kopp, member of the South-East Regional Management of the City Networks & Grids Operational Division. SPIE's site at Ergolding was recently awarded the title of "TOP Company Lower Bavaria 2019". According to the governor of Lower Bavaria, SPIE embodies values that are important for finding, qualifying and retaining skilled workers.

A lifelong training at the SPIE Academy

"The continuous training of our colleagues is just as important as a good education. New solutions and technologies require long-term learning from our part. With SPIE Academy, we offer a wide variety of continuing education courses throughout Germany. The cooperation with educational partners from the technology and industry sector or with universities makes it possible to support a variety of development steps within the company. This ranges from training in digital technologies through seminars in project management to on-the-job promotion and study programmes", says Stefan Deibel, Head of Development and SPIE Academy at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa. In 2018 alone, approximately 7,500 participants took part in courses organised by SPIE Academy.
