- SPIE supplies the headquarters of the automotive glazing manufacturer Saint-Gobain Sekurit with useful energy while providing technical services and supporting research at the Herzogenrath headquarters
- Together, SPIE and Saint-Gobain aim to improve their energy efficiency and increase their annual savings
Ratingen, 17 April 2019 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, and the automotive glazing leader Saint-Gobain Sekurit have renewed their contract. Effective since 2012, the latter has been prematurely extended in late 2018 and until 2028. SPIE provides the company headquarters - and largest production site - in Herzogenrath with useful energy while providing technical services and conducting efficiency improvements.
Precise savings objectives by 2028
Since 2012, SPIE has supplied the headquarters of Saint-Gobain Sekurit in Herzogenrath with heating and electricity while providing technical services in the fields of refrigeration, air conditioning, compressed air and cooling water supply. To increase the production site’s energy efficiency and save CO2, the multi-technical service provider established a new co-generation plant, a new central cooling facility and two boiler plants while modernising the existing boiler house.
“In the past year, SPIE supported the automotive glazing manufacturer in the establishment of a new production line”, explains Andreas Schmitz from SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa. “At the same time, we set up a second energy centre, which supplies the production line with compressed air, refrigeration and cooling water. This was another reason for our clients to extend the contract for the tenth time with a supplement and to extend it prematurely by almost six years”.
“With the contract extension, SPIE and Saint-Gobain Sekurit agreed to increase their efficiency with annual increases in CO2 savings from 2019 to 2028. We already have achieved significant savings for our customers in the past," says Schmitz. "An important step was the modernization of compressed air production. We are now recovering heat from the compressors and saving energy. Demand-oriented control systems were also implemented in many areas of refrigeration supply. For the first time, we can now commit ourselves to precise objectives."
Proven cooperation in the expansion of the research location
The automotive supplier is currently building a campus in Herzogenrath to train skilled workers and strengthen research and development at the site: "We also support our customers in creating the necessary energy infrastructures," explains Schmitz. SPIE has worked with Saint-Gobain Sekurit since 2012. Since then, the customer relationship has been constantly strengthened. Three SPIE employees are currently on site on a daily basis. An on-call service has been set up for nights, weekends and public holidays.
