Cergy, 20 June 2024 – SPIE Facilities, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is helping the regional delegation of RTE, which manages the electricity transmission network in France, to optimise the energy performance of its tertiary real estate portfolio across 21 sites in eastern France.
Using expertise to increase the energy performance of buildings
RTE Est set itself the target of reducing its electricity consumption across all 21 of its sites in eastern France, located in Grand Est and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and covering a total area of 82,500 m², including its 20,000 m² headquarters in Villers-lès-Nancy.
With a view to identifying and implementing the most effective solutions, RTE selected SPIE Facilities, a subsidiary of SPIE France specialising in maintenance and technical operation of building and in facility management, to fulfil a five-year multi-technical maintenance contract covering all of its buildings.
Since 2022, SPIE Facilities has developed a number of initiatives aimed at reducing the energy consumption of the real estate portfolio and in particular the RTE headquarters in Villers-lès-Nancy.
These include:
- Optimisation of the scheduling of centralised technical management: reduction of the average temperature inside buildings, making it easier to control and reduce energy consumption.
- Creation of an EcoWatt button[1]: installation of a device allowing the entire site to be switched to reduced consumption in real time. This initiative promotes more reactive and efficient energy management while striking an optimal balance between comfort and consumption.
- Replacement of energy-intensive equipment: replacement of old equipment with more energy-efficient versions and upgrading of the lighting in three buildings to LED lighting.
Thanks to these initiatives, the regional headquarters in Villers-lès-Nancy has succeeded in reducing its energy consumption by 25% compared with 2021.
"SPIE was the ideal partner to help us to significantly reduce the energy consumption of our regional headquarters. We were also highly appreciative of the company's ability to innovate around the EcoWatt scheme. We now want to take this even further by extending SPIE's consulting activities to other sites and by launching an energy performance contract," explains Élisabeth Bertin, RTE Delegate for the Grand Est and Bourgogne-France-Comté regions.
"We are delighted by the initial successes achieved by this collaboration and will continue to support RTE in its future energy optimisation projects. This project is a perfect example of our commitment to supporting our customers through their energy transitions. The results achieved demonstrate the effectiveness of our solutions and our ability to overcome energy challenges in a practical and sustainable manner," adds Jean-Louis Chatillon, Operational Director Grand Est SPIE Facilities.
[1] The EcoWatt scheme allows French people, companies and communities to improve the way they consume energy. EcoWatt or "the electricity weather forecast" issues alerts indicating the periods during which French consumers are asked to reduce their consumption in order to avoid blackouts.
