SPIE broadens its Ergonomics offer

Cergy, 9 March 2021 – SPIE CityNetworks, a French subsidiary of the SPIE Group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is boosting its expertise in the field of ergonomics to allow it to respond to the challenges posed by the quality of working life, particularly within sensitive and complex environments, such as control rooms and supervisory roles.

A team of ergonomists devoted to the safety and well-being of employees

Since 2001, SPIE CityNetworks, which is dedicated to the energy and digital networks, city services and transport & mobility, has provided its customers with ergonomist designers, tasked with planning the layout of workspaces and control rooms. This team is made up of expert mechanical engineers and ergonomists, as well as operational staff who oversee the management of the sites. They are involved in all areas of activity covered by SPIE France.

The primary mission of the Ergonomics team is to adapt the working environment to the human being to guarantee the highest possible level of operational performance. It participates in particular in projects involving the development of sensitive sites, such as Urban Supervisory Control Centres (CSUs): “The operators play a key role: they are few and far between and their well-being is a major concern. The aim is to enable them to carry out their activities with maximum comfort, safety and efficiency,” explains Jérôme Maître, Head of Ergonomics at SPIE CityNetworks. The challenge is to reconcile the technical furniture standards with the budgetary constraints. All aspects of the furniture have therefore been studied: the shape, the choice of colours and materials, as well as lighting, acoustics and thermal comfort.

A turnkey solution

With its Ergonomics offer, SPIE sets itself apart thanks to its ability to offer customised furniture tailored to every working environment.  To allow for the approval of the architectural design and the technical specifications prior to committing to manufacturing, it offers innovative and immersive 3D models to make it easier for customers to plan ahead.

This expertise has been gradually built up through contact with the various areas of activity encountered: aeronautics, industry, road transport, public and maritime transport networks, etc. Experience that allows it to constantly update its offer and instil good practices among its customers.

SPIE is also involved in all stages of the installations, from design right through to the completion of the work. According to Jérôme Maître, “this allows for greater responsiveness during the completion of the project. The method deployed by SPIE has proven its worth to many customers”.

A key player in the mobility sector, SPIE CityNetworks was recently awarded the contract to develop the centralised control centres for the future metro lines 15, 16 and 17 in the Greater Paris region, which incorporates around 100 surveillance desks.
