Brussels, March 3, 2020 - SPIE Belgium has been involved in the urban security market in Belgium for several years now, working in partnership with two police zones in Wallonia. The Belgian subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has recently been awarded new contracts in this area and is looking forward to expanding its technical expertise in the field of urban security.
Many of Belgium’s police zones now have video surveillance networks in place. Their purpose is to deter potential offenders, make people feel safer, improve police surveillance and response times and, where necessary, assist ongoing investigations. SPIE Belgium’s Building Systems division has been installing and maintaining video surveillance cameras for two Walloon police zones: Vesdre and Les Fagnes.
In the Vesdre police zone (municipalities of Verviers, Dison and Pepinster), SPIE Belgium extended the urban CCTV network and is responsible for the complete maintenance of the network, which now includes a total of 72 street cameras and a sophisticated dispatching system. More recently, SPIE Belgium secured a new order for 10 additional cameras in the Vesdre police zone, which is set to have one of the densest video surveillance networks in Belgium.
SPIE Belgium has also been awarded a second urban surveillance contract in the Les Fagnes police zone (municipalities of Spa, Theux and Jalhay). The contract covers the installation and maintenance of new video surveillance systems in police stations and the extension of the zone’s existing network of cameras. As Christophe Castiaux, the manager of SPIE Belgium’s Building Systems Brussels Elec business unit, explains: “urban security is an area in which we have a great deal of interest at SPIE Belgium. Over the years, we have strengthened our expertise in this sector. Thanks to our high-performance cameras and our professional supervision and maintenance systems, the police zones we work with are delighted with the partnership.”
