Gdańsk, Poland - 3 July 2026 – SPIE Energy Poland, a Polish subsidiary of SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been selected to lead a consortium with ELFEKO S.A. to deliver the first section of the 400 kV Choczewo – Gdańsk Błonia – Grudziądz Węgrowo transmission line. The project is part of a broader programme to expand Poland’s transmission infrastructure and support the integration of electricity generated by offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
The project is being delivered on behalf of Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) by SPIE Energy Poland and its consortium partner ELFEKO S.A., a Polish company active in several sectors, including energy and wind power. It covers the installation of the first section of the line, spanning approximately 50 kilometres (49.6 km). Work is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with completion planned for 2029.
The remaining two sections will be delivered by two other contractors. Once completed, the entire 400 kV Choczewo – Gdańsk Błonia – Grudziądz Węgrowo transmission line will span approximately 125 kilometres. The route will pass through 18 municipalities in the Pomeranian Voivodeship: Choczewo, Gniewino, Łęczyce, Luzino, Linia, Szemud, Kartuzy, Przodkowo, Żukowo, Somonino, Przywidz, Kolbudy, Pruszcz Gdański, Trąbki Wielkie, Pszczółki, Tczew, Suchy Dąb and Cedry Wielkie.
The 400 kV Choczewo – Gdańsk Błonia – Grudziądz Węgrowo transmission line will connect offshore wind farms to Poland’s national power system, enabling electricity generated in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea to be supplied to consumers across the country. Electricity from offshore wind farms with a planned combined capacity of up to 17.9 GW will be fed into newly built substations and transmitted nationwide through extra-high-voltage lines, supporting Poland’s energy transition.
The investment will help increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix, reduce CO₂ emissions and strengthen the country’s energy security. At the same time, it will open up new development opportunities for the Pomerania region, which has the potential to become Poland’s leading renewable energy hub.
“This will not be our first project of such strategic importance for Poland’s energy security in Pomerania. We are currently delivering a 22-kilometre section of the transmission line running from the Choczewo substation to tower No. 64 in the municipality of Gniewino. Completion of this work is planned for 2027. At the same time, as consortium leader, we are responsible for delivering the 400 kV Choczewo substation, one of the most significant grid infrastructure projects currently under way in Poland. This substation will receive electricity generated by offshore wind farms and already plays a key role in preparing the national power system for their integration,” said Szymon Zapadka, Project Director for SPIE in Poland.
