Breda, 24 June, 2020 – SPIE Nederland, a subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the field of energy and communication, has developed a new mobile application, called AirPortal, designed to make it easier for travellers to find their way around an airport and reach their destination.
AirPortal allows its users to have an insight into and control over their trip from the moment they book their flights until they reach their destination. The application offers a wide variety of services and advices. Prior to their arrival at the airport, the application will look at the up-to-date traffic situation, check how crowded the airport is and let its users know at what time they should leave. Travellers can also reserve through AirPortal a parking space, with or without a charging station.
Shortly before their arrival at the airport, Airportal will provide travellers with useful directions using the smart Last Mile navigation program. The application also considers their points of entry into the airport, any unforeseen queues or other obstacles. For example, if one traveller is running late for its flight, Airportal will send him through the Priority Lane and give its position to the airport staff so he can reach the boarding gate in time. While inside the airport, Airportal can also be your guide for food, drink and other services located in your area. After takeoff, Airportal allows to watch television or Netflix, enjoy radio or play video games.
All these functions are integrated on a live basis; no user data is stored. The application only tracks travellers in real time without recording their movements. Safe and anonymous, this solution is ideal for a busy location such as an airport. Airportal shares many similarities with the Zorgmedia application, also developed by SPIE, which allows patients to be guided within a hospital structure.
SPIE’s account manager, Eric Schiltmans, takes pride in this project. He previously initiated the popular Zorgmedia App, which is now successfully used in several large University Medical Centers daily. “The Zorgmedia app has provided the basis for this new platform. In principle, it can be used for all major locations such as hospitals and airports, but also, for example, event sites.”
This is just a brief description of what the Airportal app has to offer. Just like the Zorgmedia App, SPIE offers the possibility of purchasing various functionalities, arranged modularly according to the solution and location in question.
