SPIE entrusted by Haizea Breizh again to assemble internal parts for wind turbine towers at two offshore wind farms

Cergy, 25 June 2024 – SPIE Industrie, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is continuing its partnership with Haizea Breizh, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Spanish Haizea Wind Group, and will assemble internal parts for the towers forming the Yeu-Noirmoutier and Dieppe-Le Tréport offshore wind farms. The partnership between SPIE Industrie and Haizea Breizh, which began with the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm project in 2022, is being consolidated with the signing of this new contract that covers both projects.

The offshore wind farms on the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier and at Dieppe Le Tréport are operated by Éoliennes en Mer Îles d'Yeu et de Noirmoutier (EMYN) and Eoliennes en Mer Dieppe le Tréport (EMDT), two subsidiaries of Ocean Winds, the joint venture set up by ENGIE and EDPR for the offshore wind energy sector. Sumitomo Corporation, La Banque des Territoires and Vendée Energie (for EMYN only) also have stakes in EMYN and EMDT.

The Yeu-Noirmoutier wind farm will have a total capacity of 488 MW, meeting the energy needs of around 800,000 people (i.e. more than the entire population of the French department of Vendée). The total capacity of the Dieppe-Le Tréport wind farm will be 496 MW, which will meet the energy needs of 850,000 inhabitants (i.e. around two-thirds of the population of the Seine-Maritime department).

Haizea Wind Group is an industrial conglomerate based in the Basque Country that specialises in manufacturing multi-component wind turbines, via its subsidiary Haizea Breizh, and is responsible for the building of the 123 Siemens Gamesa-designed wind turbine towers that will form the two wind farms. This is the project for which SPIE Industrie has been selected to once again assemble the internal mechanical and electrical parts used in sections of wind turbine towers at the MRE terminal in Brest.

This latest collaboration between Haizea Breizh and SPIE Industrie reflects both the success of the partnership that grew from the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm project between 2022 and 2023 and the expertise that SPIE Industrie has developed in marine renewable energies, particularly in connection with performance and industrialisation levels. The fact that SPIE Industrie is well established in the region was another factor that proved decisive in securing these new contracts.

SPIE Industrie’s expertise in marine renewable energy development

Under the contracts, SPIE Industrie will perform the electrical and mechanical assembly work for all internal parts to be fitted in the wind turbine towers at the two offshore sites, in Haizea Breizh’s facilities on the Brest polder. The teams will be working on the bottom, middle and top sections of the towers.

This work will be carried out for the Yeu-Noirmoutier wind farm between summer 2024 and summer 2025, and between summer 2025 and summer 2026 for the Dieppe-Le Tréport wind farm.

“This latest collaboration with Haizea Breizh is a further testament to the expertise and high-quality services developed by SPIE Industrie in the marine renewable energy sector. We are proud to be actively developing French offshore wind farms by drawing on our local presence in Brest and our outstanding industry knowledge,” states Xavier de Noblens, Head of Department at SPIE Industrie.

“Having completed 50 towers for the Saint Nazaire offshore wind farm and 62 towers for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, we are very proud to continue playing our part in the development of French offshore wind farms via our Haizea Breizh subsidiary established in the port of Brest and to extend our partnership with SPIE Industrie to assemble internal parts for the towers of the Yeu-Noirmoutier and Dieppe-Le Tréport wind farms,” states Magali Roquette, Haizea Wind Group Project Manager.
