Breda, 17 March 2021 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, will be responsible for connecting to the local power grid the Kroningswind onshore windfarm, which represents no fewer than 19 wind turbines. Once completed, this sustainable project will provide power to approximately 65.000 households.
In 2011, ten farming families took the initiative to develop a windfarm on their land, the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in Zuid-Holland (Netherlands)[1], with the aim of providing a sustainable future for both their region and the farming business. Therefore, they worked intensely on the development of the Noordrand region[2], by developing wildlife areas, reinforcing the agricultural structure, restoring the image of rural living, extending the use of wind energy.
With 19 Vestas V117 wind turbines and a capacity of approximately 80 MW, the Kroningswind windfarm will produce, once connected, green electricity for the next 25 years. SPIE’s activities include connecting the 33-kV wind park with several different forms of cabling, the engineering and the setup of various switchgear. SPIE will also address associated issues such as emergency facilities, fibre optic cables and camera, control and security systems.
During the preliminary phase of the tender, SPIE distinguished itself by offering a more efficient solution, different from the initial one: the implementation of one single transformer and one single switching yard instead of two of each. A performance due to its expertise developed within the recent BU Medium Tension of SPIE Nederland.
Theo Pieters, project manager at SPIE, is enthusiastic about this initiative: “At SPIE we enjoy working on green and sustainable projects. The capacity that we will soon create with this windfarm will be an additional asset for a more sustainable society.”
