Berlin, 10 november 2020 – SPIE, the independent European market leader for multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, was tasked with installing and commissioning all electrical systems (high and low voltage technology) as part of the modernisation and fit-out project of the Marienfelde site, in Berlin. SPIE is modernising and extending the Marienfelde branch for the German automotive manufacturer, which is situated adjacent to the plant in Berlin. The multi-technical service provider began its work in August 2020. Completion of the entire order is planned for the end of 2021.
State-of-the-art technology and custom solutions
As a multi-technical service provider, SPIE has been delivering safe, economical and sustainable buildings, facilities and infrastructure for many years – and this modernisation and fit-out work for the German automotive manufacturer is no exception. In order to be well-positioned for the future, the branch in the Marienfelde area of Berlin is undergoing a full renovation. The automotive plant is in direct proximity to the branch being modernised and is also connected to the same networks. In addition, the carmaker successfully uses various technologies from the area of Industry 4.0 at its Berlin location as part of its digitalisation strategy. This also necessitates a modern technical infrastructure for the modernisation work in Marienfelde.
SPIE is responsible for all services based on high and low voltage technology. This includes installing and commissioning all electrical systems, such as the medium voltage switchgear, transformers and sub-distributors, as well as laying all power and data cables. In the area of low voltage technology and auxiliary equipment, the multi-technical service provider is installing a comprehensive fire alarm system at the location, putting in the telephone and data networks including the fibre-optic cables and implementing a speech alarm system as well as an intercom system. “Furthermore, our team is developing custom solutions for the upcoming modernisation measures – allowing us to ensure that the technology is state-of-the-art and provide our customer with comprehensive support”, explains Dirk Schmalfeldt, SPIE Project Manager in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division and responsible for all high voltage services.
Solutions from a single source to strengthen long-term partnership
The partnership between SPIE and Mercedes-Benz AG at the Berlin location dates back over 30 years. The SPIE team works regularly at the six car dealerships and branches in Berlin: “We have been responsible for the data networks and providing services relating to fire alarm technology for many years. In addition, we plan, install and maintain the video surveillance technology at many of the automotive manufacturer’s premises in Berlin”, reports Dan Fischer, Branch Manager of the Berlin branch in the Information & Communication Services operational division at SPIE. The long-standing and trusting collaboration also tipped the scales in favour of this order in the Marienfelde area of Berlin. “We are very pleased that we were able to convince our customer of our broad competency and technical expertise in this case as well. Together with our colleagues from the CityNetworks & Grids operational division, we can render all services in the area of high and low voltage. The customer benefits from the fact that here we were able to provide everything from a single source”, Dan Fischer continues. “As a result of the close collaboration of our experts in the area of high and low voltage technology, we guarantee our customer operational readiness at all times, streamlined coordination channels and service provision from a single source – entirely in line with ONE SPIE”, adds Dirk Schmalfeldt in conclusion.
