Cergy, 21 April 2026 – SPIE Industrie, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is supporting Kuhlmann, a manufacturer of wastewater treatment and drinking water purification products, with the installation of a 225-15 kV substation in Loos, Nord. This structural project, which will be completed by late 2026, will contribute directly to achieving electrification objectives and, as a result, decarbonising the site's activities.
Objective: to address energy supply challenges
A bespoke solution, from design to commissioning
To support the growth of its business and increase production at its Loos site, Kuhlmann has commissioned the SPIE Industrie teams to help meet its evolving electrical requirements and build a 225/15 kV (kilovolt) substation. In practical terms, this infrastructure, built on a 5,000-square-metre site, connects the facility to the 225 kV high-voltage grid.
As part of a consortium bringing together several specialist companies, SPIE Industrie has been involved since the design phase, during which it carried out preliminary studies to evaluate and define the site's electricity requirements. SPIE Industrie is providing and installing the necessary electrical equipment, which includes high- and low-voltage equipment, command and control systems and a 40 MVA transformer. Finally, SPIE Industrie will apply its expertise to connect the site to the public network.
This project draws on the wide-ranging technical expertise of SPIE Industrie and involves project management, high- and low-voltage design offices, control and command experts and local project teams. Beyond its technical complexity, it therefore presents a human challenge, with its success depending on the coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
Work began in June 2024 and will finish in late 2026.
"This new installation is fully in line with our decarbonisation objectives," states Eric Delhuielle, Managing Director of Kuhlmann Europe. "With SPIE Industrie's support, we are continuing with our site electrification strategy. This low-carbon approach allows us to ensure environmental performance while remaining competitive on the European wastewater treatment market."
"We are proud to be supporting Kuhlmann Europe in implementing this project that is decisive for the future of the Loos site. This collaboration perfectly illustrates how our multi-technical expertise can be applied to projects using the most demanding electrical equipment to address the strategic energy supply challenges faced by industrial players," adds Yves Sonzogni, High-Voltage Sales Director at SPIE Industrie.
