Rüsselsheim, 25 October 2021 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is installing over 200 charging stations with more than 500 charging points for electric vehicles in Rüsselsheim on behalf of Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim GmbH, making a decisive contribution to the mobility transition in the city.
The operation covers installing, connecting and commissioning the charging points and delivering 24 cable and data cabinets. Among the 200 charging stations, 30 will be fast charging stations that use a minimum of 50 kilowatts. After being charging there for 15 minutes, electric vehicles have a range of up to 100 kilometres depending on the vehicle type. “Extensive, powerful charging infrastructure is essential to developing electric mobility, especially in public spaces. This is why we are delighted to be able, with this operation, to support the city of Rüsselsheim in its path to a long-term mobility transition,” said Angelo Urso, project manager at SPIE Lück in Rüsselsheim.
The multi-technical service provider is also providing the complete earthing system for the charging stations, benefiting from its extensive electrical expertise. “Our team has comprehensive experience and project references in the area of electrical infrastructure, which also puts us in an excellent position to establish charging infrastructure,” Angelo Urso continued. SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa will complete the contract within a tight schedule of just seven months.
Charging points accessible to all
The charging points, which are accessible and can be used by anyone, are located in three car parks that used to belong to automotive manufacturer Opel, which has rented out the parking spaces to the city of Rüsselsheim for the next 15 years.
An average of up to seven SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa specialists from the Rüsselsheim location work on completing the operation on schedule. “Our proximity to the client and our knowledge of local conditions allows us to ensure that the operation will be completed on time. Our team has also received extensive training in Compleo’s charging stations so that we can handle a wide range of tasks ourselves, which ensures reliability,” added Turhan Can, branch manager in charge of the contract within the Building Technology & Automation operational division of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa.
Future of “green individual transport”
SPIE and Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim have already had a business relationship in the form of a framework contract as service provider for conventional local grid construction for five years. Now, Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim GmbH is benefiting further from the multi-technical service provider’s broad range of services and considerable technical expertise. “By installing the charging points, we – as a local energy supplier – are making a significant contribution to the future of green individual transport in our city and we are delighted that this operation will be delivered by SPIE, a professional and effective service partner,” said Michael Brinkmann, project manager at Stadtwerke Rüsselsheim GmbH.
SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa has already installed over 7,000 charging points for electric vehicles across Germany over the years. “At SPIE, we consider the mobility transition and the holistic implementation of charging infrastructure as one of our focus areas and as a development opportunity. Thanks to our diverse range of experts across Germany, we already have good references and considerable experience, which helps us provide our customers with the best possible solutions from a single source,” said Andreas Wokittel, General Manager of the Building Technology & Automation operational division.
