Ergolding, 28 April 2021 – SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, the German subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is now a member of Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria, where it will play an active role in shaping the state’s overall hydrogen strategy and putting it into practice. Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria is coordinated by Center Hydrogen Bavaria - H2.B and aims to transform Bavaria into a leading hub for hydrogen technology.
Technical expertise for future hydrogen activities
Comprising more than 160 members from the worlds of business, research and politics, the alliance is a powerful network of experts focusing on the generation, logistics, use and scaling of hydrogen technology. “Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria is an opportunity for us to promote hydrogen technology as part of a powerful network and further consolidate our expertise as a pioneering service provider,” says Ralf Tröger, head of the Pipeline unit in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa. As a system integrator and expert in the implementation, maintenance and repair of technical infrastructure with outstanding know-how in electricity, gas and heat distribution networks, SPIE is the perfect partner when it comes to further developing the wide variety of applications in the world of hydrogen technology. Sector coupling as well as the storage, transport and application of hydrogen in industry are just some of the areas in which SPIE can excel. In the area of mobility, SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa’s current activities involving the nationwide expansion of the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles will be supplemented in the future by hydrogen filling stations. “Hydrogen can potentially play a key role for heavy-goods vehicles and shipping,” says Dietmar Bogerl, head of the Energy & Mobility Solutions unit in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa.
Hydrogen as a key element in the energy transition
Together with its customers and business partners, SPIE – as a technical service provider with a broad range of expertise and comprehensive offering – is seeking to promote hydrogen as a technology of the future. “Hydrogen is increasingly proving to be a key element in the energy transition. As the market leader for transmission-network and distribution-grid solutions, we are keen to assume a leading role in the field of hydrogen technology too,” says Peter Pfannenstiel, Member of the Management Board of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa and Managing Director / COO of SPIE SAG GmbH. “As a means of storing energy, hydrogen can potentially play a crucial role in effective sector coupling – without which a climate-friendly future will be almost impossible to achieve. Hydrogen can potentially solve the problems associated with the storage of renewables and, unlike electricity, can be stored not only for longer periods but also transported over long distances with minimal loss,” says Peter Pfannenstiel.
SPIE is confident that close collaboration with customers and business partners will result in innovative and efficient solutions, which is why the multi-technical service provider values the support of the broad-ranging network behind Hydrogen Alliance Bavaria.
