SPIE Nucléaire awarded EDF rotating equipment maintenance contract for seven nuclear power plants

Cergy, 1 September 2026 – SPIE Nucléaire, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, announces that it has been awarded three lots within the scope of a tender issued by EDF to maintain rotating equipment. Focused on seven nuclear power generation centres (“CNPE”1), these contracts, won in a consortium with ORYS Ortec Group and Eiffage Energie Systèmes, serve to strengthen SPIE Nucléaire’s strategic role in addressing nuclear safety and energy transition challenges alongside EDF.

Actively operating in three regions of France’s nuclear fleet

SPIE Nucléaire renewed its partnership with EDF by winning three major lots as part of a nationwide tender to maintain rotating equipment. The company operates under a joint and several liability consortium (“GMES”2) at seven nuclear facilities located in three French regions:

  • In Chinon, Saint-Laurent and Civaux (Val-de-Loire) as the leader of a consortium with Eiffage Energie Systèmes;
  • In Blayais and Golfech (South-West), as the leader of a consortium with ORYS, Ortec Group;
  • In Tricastin and Cruas (South-East), as a partner in a consortium with ORYS, Ortec Group.

These contracts started on 1 January 2026 and involve nearly 100 SPIE Nucléaire employees.

Rotating equipment: essential to nuclear plant safety and performance

Forming the core of nuclear power operations, rotating machinery – motors, gearboxes, pumps, compressors – plays a vital role in achieving low-carbon energy production processes. From cooling circuits to circulating water in pools and enabling ventilation, this equipment is used throughout machine rooms and reactor buildings. Under these contracts, SPIE Nucléaire teams complete more than 1,200 different tasks.

Maintaining such facilities requires highly specialised technical expertise and fast responsiveness to ensure operational continuity while preventing any malfunctions. SPIE Nucléaire meets these challenges both during outages – when production is halted to allow major maintenance operations involving up to 20 teams – and at operational units to oversee lubrication and cleaning activities.
