Brussels, February 18, 2019 – SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been selected as a partner to carry out major renovation works on the “Brederode Corner” office building. The works are being undertaken by Befimmo, a real-estate operator specialising in office buildings.
Befimmo began the major renovation works on the “Brederode Corner” building in April 2018. This building, located on a shopping street in Brussels, a short distance from the Palais Royal and Brussels’ main cultural and historic sites, will house prestigious tenants. SPIE Belgium will be working on the entire building, with a surface area of over 6,500 m2. It will be responsible for the following: HVAC, electricity, sanitary systems and automation of the fire system.
Since the timescale for delivery is very short – one year – SPIE Belgium has decided to deploy no less than 30 employees (engineers, site teams and administrative staff) on this multi-technical contract. The Group also plans to design its models using BIM (Building Information Modelling). This production of digital models allows better organisation of the construction process and facilitates the exchange of information between the partners.
SPIE Belgium’s works at “Brederode Corner” must meet BREEAM standards. This reference system is the most widely used to evaluate the environmental performance of office buildings. For this project, Befimmo is targeting BREEAM certification with a rating of “Excellent”.
“We won this major multi-technical contract thanks to the ability of our teams to listen, and thus be able to meet Befimmo's requirements” says Christophe Castiaux, Senior Business Development Manager at SPIE Belgium. “Our proposal for a single point of contact for the various operations was also a decisive factor”, he explains. For Sandra Gottcheiner, director of the Building Systems division of SPIE Belgium, the challenge for real-estate clients clearly lies in the comfort, flexibility and modernity which they are able to offer the occupants of their offices. “To overcome this challenge, SPIE works alongside its clients and deploys its teams on all technical aspects, including environmental performance and data management”, she explains.
