Munich, October 12, 2023 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been contracted by the City of Munich to support the planning, implementation and commissioning of a unified communications system for around 1,350 locations and some 40,000 telephone lines.
Centrally hosted UC system
As part of the replacement of ISDN technology, the City of Munich is establishing a central telecommunications network for its institutions and entities that will provide telephony services for the entire Munich city administration.
Experts from the Information & Communication Services operational division of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa are assisting it@M, the City of Munich’s central service provider for information and telecommunications technology, with the design and installation of a new, centrally hosted UC system for around 40,000 telephone lines, the connection of the established network of over 150 communications systems and the subsequent migration of the existing systems to the central communications system.
“Due to the complexity involved in the planning and implementation phase, this project will demand outstanding dialogue skills and technical expertise on the part of my team. We have delivered impressive evidence of our ability to meet this challenge in recent years and in the latest tender process,” says Werner Fella, the responsible project manager at the Information & Communication Services operational division of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, with pride.
Complex rollout
Werner Fella’s team is based in Wörthsee near Munich. With its local presence, the team has worked with employees of the City of Munich in a trusting partnership stretching back several years. The planning and organisational phases of the local rollout are particularly complex. Separate checklists need to be created and worked through for each individual location in order to ensure that all employees of the city’s institutions and the corresponding communications tools are migrated to the new system in a suitable manner.
The term of the four-year master agreement began on 1 March 2023. It was concluded with PTC Telecom GmbH, a proud part of SPIE since 2022.
