Gdansk, Poland, 2 October 2024 – SPIE Elbud Gdansk, a Polish subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, announced the signing of a contract with ENEA Operator Sp. z o.o. at the end of August 2024. The contract covers the installation of a 15-kilometre 110kV overhead power line between Budziechów and Żary in Lubusz Voivodeship. This project also includes the modernisation of equipment at the Budziechów and Żary substations, further enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources. SPIE Elbud Gdańsk was awarded several contracts this year for the installation or modernisation of a total of 100 kilometres of power lines. Many of the upcoming or ongoing projects enhance the potential for renewable energy development in Poland by expanding the capacity for connecting photovoltaic and wind farms.

Following a tender procedure, ENEA Operator Sp. z o.o. selected SPIE for the installation of the Budziechów–Żary power line. The scope of work includes the development of design documentation and the installation of a 15-kilometre 110 kV line between the primary substations (GPZ) in Budziechów and Żary. The project completion deadline is 35 months from the contract signing date (29 August 2024).

Design and installation of the line are part of special Polish legislation on the preparation and implementation of strategic investments in transmission networks (the so-called ‘Specustawa’). The project will improve the reliability of the grid and enable the connection of additional entities to the network. The investment is significant due to the increasing amount of energy sourced from renewable sources by prosumers 1.

Nearly 100 kilometres in progress

SPIE Elbud Gdańsk has signed other contracts for line projects this year, including:

  • the modernisation of an existing double-circuit 400 kV line section between Dobrzeń and Pasikurowice/Trębaczew (53.5 kilometres)
  • the construction of a power output system for the gas-steam unit in Rybnik – (approximately 2 kilometres of 400 kV line and 2 kilometres of 110 kV cable line)

This year, the company also completed several previously contracted projects

The projects completed this year include the modernisation of the 400 kV Krosno – Lemešany line, the modernisation of a section of the 400 kV power line between Trębaczew and Dobrzeń/Joachimów.

Additionally, an important task was completed for PGE Gryfino 2050 Sp. z o.o.: the installation of a power output system to the electrical grid along with a backup power supply system for two gas-steam units for PGE GiEK S.A. Dolna Odra Power Plant Complex.

By carrying out modernisation programs for 110 kV and 400 kV lines and participating in the installation of new substations (GPZ) and supply points (PZ), SPIE Elbud Gdańsk is significantly contributing to the growth of renewable energy (RES) in Poland by expanding the capacity to connect photovoltaic and wind farms,” says Leszek Goli, Managing Director of SPIE Elbud Gdańsk.
