Saint-Ouen, 8 January 2025 – SPIE Facilities, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, announces the extension of its collaboration with Merck, a key player in the area of innovative pharmaceutical markets, life sciences and advanced technologies and chemicals. This contract relates to the multi-technical maintenance of the buildings at the Molsheim site in Bas-Rhin and forms part of a global approach striving to optimise energy performance.
Within the framework of a multi-technical maintenance contract, SPIE has been supporting the Merck site in Molsheim, which specialises in manufacturing and assembling products and solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, since 2016. Encouraged by this successful collaboration, when the contract came up for renewal in July 2025, its technical scope was extended and the new MOBIUS buildings on the site were added to the services scope.
The contract covers multi-technical services including the maintenance of industrial utilities, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) facilities, steam and chilled water systems, systems associated with the specific fluids required for industrial production, and high- and low-voltage electricity networks. SPIE Facilities also carries out work to ensure site mobility (e.g. on automatic doors and lifts) and building maintenance (e.g. on roofs and entrance gates), which means that the site can benefit from high-performance, secure facilities that ensure optimal comfort.
In order to deliver this contract, SPIE Facilities is drawing on its expertise in energy efficiency and sustainable development, notably by supporting Merck in obtaining environmental certification.
In parallel with this strengthened collaboration, Merck recently recognised SPIE Facilities' CSR commitment by awarding it the 2025 Merck CSR Trophy in the "Overall CSR policy – 360° approach covering all aspects of CSR" category. SPIE Facilities received special commendation for its climate education initiative, for the way in which it supports local communities and for providing more than 1500 employees with sustainability training.
"We are proud to be continuing our journey with Merck at its Molsheim site. This collaboration enables us to apply our multi-technical expertise while continuing to fulfil our CSR commitment. The award of the 2025 Merck CSR Trophy to SPIE Facilities is a beautiful illustration of our ability to work alongside our customers every day to overcome the challenges brought about by the low-carbon transition", states Jean-Louis Chatillon, Grand-Est Business Director at SPIE Facilities.
"The decision to consolidate this partnership with SPIE Facilities, which centres on a model combining multi-technical and multi-service offerings, was driven by the desire to secure cutting-edge expertise and a single point of contact for our Molsheim site. We also see great value in SPIE's CSR commitment, which is demonstrated by the quality of its tools and its energy monitoring, as we can draw on its expertise to overcome our own challenges related to energy efficiency and sustainable development", explains Sébastien Leyendecker, Life Science External Manufacturing Manager at Merck..
