Malakoff, 07 July 2026 – SPIE ICS, a French digital services company and subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is currently implementing a centralised Wi-Fi solution for BACK EUROP FRANCE – a network of 51 distributors of raw materials for bakeries, pastry shops and restaurant operators. Seven logistics sites are already operational, serving to drive more efficient production.
Achieving logistics continuity
At the end of 2022, BACK EUROP FRANCE began modernising its infrastructure, installing a stable Wi-Fi network in its warehouses – built for the long term. Technical reliability aside, the network sought a solution that could be deployed across all 49 of its sites with management conducted remotely using a centralised dashboard at its Vannes-based headquarters in northwestern France.
Reliable connectivity is key to running the operator tablets used to scan and track goods. An outage can trigger a slowdown or halt in production.
Customising solutions, with a focus on proximity
The partnership kick-started in September 2022 with a diagnostic phase. As a result, SPIE ICS introduced the Cisco Meraki platform – preferred for its ease of use and Cloud-based management which ensures centralised control and maintenance.
Numerous challenges were overcome prior to launching the solution:
- Guaranteeing optimum coverage: in warehouses, the sheer volume and height of inventory can interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. With this in mind, SPIE ICS conducted coverage studies to best position the antenna and oversee a stable network – including fully stocked storage areas.
- Withstanding extreme temperatures: some storage spaces require cold room operations, down to -30°C. The vetted hardware had to demonstrate resistance to such conditions, without affecting performance.
To deliver consistent deployment while enabling best-in-class setup, the equipment is prepared and pre-configured on the SPIE ICS logistics platform in Bruz (northwestern France) before it is shipped to each BACK EUROP FRANCE location.
For BACK EUROP FRANCE, SPIE ICS’s ability to actively operate on the ground proved mission-critical, thanks to its 60 nationwide locations. Active throughout France, the network needed a partner capable of providing local support, in the interests of sovereignty.
Seven locations spanning various regions already use this new infrastructure. The aim is to gradually roll out this solution at the other network sites.
Bertrand Jaunet, Sales Engineer, SPIE ICS, commented: “Our customised solution for BACK EUROP FRANCE delivered quality of service across the board, over time, irrespective of the drawbacks.” “Through this partnership, SPIE ICS helped customers navigate their digital transformation, combining technical expertise with regional proximity.”
“This project was driven by the need to optimise logistics management with a readily operable network. The SPIE ICS team executed the project from start to finish – covering needs assessment to on-site installation, not to mention equipment supply and setup.” added Olivier Desnos, Deputy CIO, BACK EUROP FRANCE.
