Genas, 4 June 2025 – SPIE Nucléaire, a French subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is today inaugurating its new Technocentre in Genas, near Lyon. Modernised and expanded in 2024 with the support of France Relance, this 1500 m² training centre has already welcomed 180 visiting professionals since the beginning of 2025. It is a strategic response to deal with the resurgence of nuclear power in France and provide training in the skills of the future.
Responding to the challenges of passing on knowledge and expertise
Created in 2024 with the support of France Relance, the Technocentre in Genas is a direct response to a major challenge identified by the sector: passing on critical knowledge and expertise and developing the strategic skills necessary for the resurgence of French nuclear power. In a context in which the need for qualifications is increasing, this centre offers advanced technical training in key areas, including welding, electricity, plumbing and ventilation. It is taking over from where the previous centre in Béligneux, which opened in 2013, left off in order to better meet the current needs of the sector.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Technocentre has already provided 2000 hours of training. More than 20 major companies in the sector – including EDF, TechnicAtome and Framatome – have already visited the facilities, confirming the collective interest in this innovative approach to training.
An innovative educational approach
This Technocentre offers an immersive educational approach that is well suited to our technical population:
- Training provided by experts from the field to pass on critical knowledge and expertise;
- Six workshops faithfully reproducing the actual working conditions on the ground to develop reliable technical reflexes;
- Training that is constantly evolving to better meet the expectations of newcomers and emerging needs.
SPIE Nucléaire is thus meeting the sector's challenges in terms of strategic skills development, upskilling both women and men and strengthening the safety culture. The centre also incorporates the notion of innovation, with its FabLab that is equipped with prototyping tools and promotes the emergence of new solutions adapted to the needs of the sector.
"In response to the challenges of upskilling and generational renewal, we are offering a training model that combines technical excellence, educational innovation and the transfer of knowledge on safety issues, at a time when the role of nuclear power is crucial to a successful energy transition," says Arnaud Snykerque, Managing Director at SPIE Nucléaire.
