Bern, May 4th, 2023 – SPIE Switzerland, a Swiss subsidiary of SPIE, the leading independent European provider of multi-technical services in the fields of energy and communications, has secured a new contract for the implementation and management of a high-performance LAN and WLAN network within the Swiss Institute for Translational and Entrepreneurial Medicine (sitem-insel AG)

Translational and entrepreneurial medicine is an emerging scientific discipline that aims to translate scientific research findings into concrete clinical applications. At the heart of Bern, sitem-insel, the national center of excellence for translational medicine, seeks to bridge the gap between clinical practice, medical theory, and industry. The Swiss institute provides state-of-the-art infrastructure for the research and development of medical devices, biomedical technologies, and new therapies. It also brings together universities, health authorities, clinics, industrial actors, and scientific research in one place, and provides access to modern laboratory and office spaces.

For sitem-insel, it is imperative to have reliable facilities to achieve optimal operational performance in translational research. Therefore, SPIE Switzerland was entrusted with setting up the LAN and WLAN network. Since 2021, sitem-insel has had an autonomous network, the operation of which is guaranteed by SPIE's managed services teams.

The network solution ensures direct monitoring and prioritization of sitem-insel's requests, network development based on needs, and self-managed access through a service portal. This platform serves as the electronic contact point for registered users, allowing them to submit requests or report malfunctions through self-service.

The new network is based on modern technologies developed by the market leader Cisco Systems and is in line with the needs of sitem-insel. It offers multimedia compatibility (voice, collaboration & conference), as well as a WLAN network covering the entire site. In terms of cybersecurity, it also has access control or zoning mechanisms for different domains. For effective network management, monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools are used to optimize its availability.

As an independent ICT service provider, SPIE Switzerland has a long-standing expertise in network outsourcing and offers flexible, innovative, and reliable managed services with advanced technologies. Its clients, such as sitem-insel, can fully benefit from recognized expertise. In addition, SPIE has specialists in the healthcare sector who have been addressing the challenges of clinics and hospitals in Switzerland for many years.

"During our collaboration, SPIE has convinced us to be the right partner for the implementation and management of our network. This is due to their technical expertise, as well as the personal support provided by SPIE's employees, who ensure an equal collaboration," explains Christian Rosser, COO of sitem-insel AG.

With the fully implemented solution, sitem-insel now has an autonomous, secure, and high-performing network with high-quality services and standards.
