Ratingen, 5 April 2020 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, was recently commissioned by a federal authority to significantly expand the capacities of its Unified Communications & Collaboration solution (UCC) at short notice because of the corona pandemic, in order to maintain its business operations and guarantee the working capacity of its employees. A challenge achieved within a week.
UCC describes the integration of different communication channels for digital cooperation. With such solutions, communication possibilities are bundled, the users accessibility is improved and the cooperation of remote teams isenhanced - important prerequisites in the current corona crisis. At the end of March, Telba, a subsidiary of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, was commissioned by a federal authority to increase the capacities of the UCC system. In just one week, SPIE managed to increase from 300 to 1,000 simultaneous online channels for meetings, conferences and digital cooperation. This ensures running business processes smoothly, extensively and without any loss of quality in the connections.
A successful cooperation based on proven track records with the customer
The basis for the quick help was already created in 2016 when SPIE renewed the client’s telecommunication structure. Within the framework of building the UCC system, the SPIE team has already added value when designing the conference server — which is now the focus of attention — with high redundancy: “We can map up to 1,500 simultaneous channels there, and therefore the current increase will not cause any loss of quality”, explains Torsten Otto, Project Manager at TELBA, the SPIE unit executing this contract. Since the renewal of the infrastructure, The multi-technical service provider is also responsible for the service and maintenance of the system. SPIE has proven to the cutomer its reliability and performance, which now led to the short-term inquiry. “The cooperation with the client’s IT department has been very fruitful since the beginning. We also supported each other as partners to ensure the project is a success”, adds Torsten Otto. In a next step, the system availability is to be further increased with an additional server.
