Brussels, 6 May 2020 – SPIE Belgium, a subsidiary of the SPIE Group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has always been at the forefront when it comes to safety. Amid the current health crisis, SPIE Belgium has developed a pragmatic three-phase approach designed to maintain safe working conditions for employees and is providing its customers with practical solutions to aid the economic recovery.
To do so, SPIE has put in place a three-phase customer support plan:
- Phase one consists of a digital interview (using Teams, Skype or Zoom, for example) aimed at better understanding the customer’s needs. To facilitate the interview, SPIE uses a checklist with specific examples, developed with the expertise of its team of prevention consultants.
- Phase two includes an on-site visit to the customer’s buildings – in full compliance with current health and safety standards – to take an inventory of the necessary equipment.
- Finally, phase three involves delivering and installing the equipment on site.
In other words, SPIE will be supporting its customers to adapt their buildings to the current circumstances. Whether it’s a matter of adjusting ventilation units (air recovery, UV systems, etc.) or installing door handle accessories, plexiglass screens or floor signage, SPIE will be at their side to help them through the transition made necessary by the current health crisis.
For example, SPIE Belgium is offering two temperature sensing solutions. Both solutions will provide a rapid means of determining whether someone has a fever and can therefore be used to limit contact between healthy employees and those who may be infected with COVID-19. The first solution, which will soon be available at SPIE’s Belgian head office in Anderlecht, is the quicker of the two to install and consists of a stand-alone terminal that simply needs to be connected to a 230-volt socket. The terminal is used to rapidly scan someone’s face and to determine whether they have a temperature above 37°.
The second temperature sensing solution is capable of scanning several people at once and of reading each person’s temperature. Installing this system requires a little more time. The wiring, however, is quite simple.
As well as its two temperature sensing solutions, SPIE Belgium can also provide a UV disinfection system. As viruses, bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms are not resistant to ultraviolet light, users will simply need to place their hands under the light beams for a few seconds to disinfect them thoroughly.
As Christophe Castiaux, the manager of SPIE Belgium's Building Systems Elec business unit, explains: “We are currently facing a situation that calls for new safety solutions. While in normal times we offer surveillance cameras and intrusion control, access control and fire detection systems, we are now having to redesign our solutions to focus on ensuring people feel safe. Several hospitals have already expressed an interest in what we have to offer. In the coming days, we’ll be able to put these systems to the test in several locations.”
