In response to changing energy supplies, network operator TransnetBW needed to regulate energy at higher voltages at the Stuttgart-Mühlhausen electrical substation. It required a reliable way to ensure consistent power supply, despite fluctuations from solar and wind input and the increasing shutdowns of conventional power plants.
To meet these needs, SPIE engineered and installed a bespoke, state-of-the-art 380-kV shunt reactor, a technology that stabilises high-voltage power grids. This solution ensures stability and operating security of the grid, making it key to responsible and sustainable energy management. Pleased with SPIE’s cutting-edge solution, TransnetBW then commissioned a similar reactor for the Goldshöfe substation.
Increase in allowed system voltage, from 110-kV to 440-kV.
