In a series of contracts for the transmission grid operator TenneT, SPIE was entrusted with executing 64 kilometres of extra-high voltage lines in Germany. TenneT needed to improve the north-south electricity supply on the Wahle-Mecklar line, and expand capacity from 200-kV to 380-kV to ensure transmission of sustainable wind energy on the Emden-Conneforde line.
For both lines, SPIE handled the cable work, planned and erected masts, built foundations, fitted steel lattice masts and disassembled old power lines. SPIE’s teams of engineers and technicians also managed coordination with different stakeholders to constantly maintain the power supply. The Emden-Conneforde line is already operational, boasting almost quadrupled transmission performance and bringing renewable wind power to consumers.
