Making lighting smarter and more sustainable

SMART-SPACE, a project launched by the European Regional Development Fund, brought together cities, universities, businesses, and other organisations to improve smart lighting technologies, making municipal lighting more sustainable.

As part of this pilot project in Middleburg, the Netherlands, SPIE lent its technological expertise and experience to studies on smart sensor systems. 

By adjusting lighting in real time, these sensors can reach the perfect balance of dynamic lighting that optimizes energy savings without compromising on safety, tackling a range of scenarios in urban environments. 

The goal now is to roll out smart lighting systems from SMART-SPACE to small- and medium-sized cities.
