Lower Austria’s largest electricity, gas and heat utility provider, Netz Niederösterreich, needed to accommodate additional grid feed-in from renewable energy sources at the Neusiedl an der Zaya transformer station.

They chose SPIE to upgrade the 110-kV switchgear system and manage the project from engineering to installation. SPIE made all improvements while the station remained operational, so that power supply to homes and businesses in the area would remain uninterrupted. The upgrades now allow the station to take in greater amounts of renewable energy and permit Netz Niederösterreich to interface its 110-kV grid with the 380-kV grid run by the Austrian Power Grid.
