Responsible digital

Responsible Digital is a key pillar of SPIE’s sustainability strategy.

To embed sustainability at the heart of its digital practices, SPIE has established a Sustainable IT Policy. This policy formalises our commitment to integrating sustainable development into most of our IT activities, reducing the environmental footprint of digital technologies, promoting responsible practices, and ensuring inclusive, accessible and ethical digital solutions.

Purpose & Scope

This policy provides the reference framework for sustainable IT practices across the Group. It applies to all SPIE entities and employees and covers the entire IT landscape, including internal and external infrastructures, hardware, software, digital services, cloud operations, and, more broadly, all IT-related activities.

The policy is reviewed and updated on a regular basis to reflect technological developments and evolving environmental standards.

Our key commitments

  1. Reduce the IT environmental footprint
    • Optimise energy consumption and resource usage.
    • Encourage the use of approaches that are compatible with low-carbon energy.
    • Foster a circular economy through the responsible management of IT assets throughout their entire life cycle.
    • Promote eco-design in digital solutions.
    • Apply the principle of digital frugality: minimising waste and using only the necessary resources.
  2. Implement inclusive, accessible and ethical digital solutions
    • Design inclusive and accessible IT solutions aimed at improving the quality of work for employees and customers.
    • Apply high standards in data protection and management, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence:
      • collect only the data that is necessary,
      • ensure the sensible use of data and systems,
      • strictly comply with regulations (GDPR and AI Act).
  3. Engage our stakeholders
    • Collaborate with our partners and our supply chain to align IT procurement and operations with sustainable development objectives.
    • Prioritise suppliers who share our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
    • Involve employees, customers and suppliers in the continuous improvement of practices and the development of a sustainability culture.
  4. Continuous improvement
    • Regularly assess technologies and practices to enhance the sustainability of IT operations.
    • Monitor progress and strengthen the Group’s environmental trajectory in the digital sphere.
