On Reunion Island, SPIE Sud-Est equips engineering structures along the Tamarins Road
The Regional Council of Reunion Island has awarded the contract to install high- and low-voltage electrical equipment in underground engineering structures along the Tamarins Road(*) currently under construction in the western part of the island, between Saint-Paul and L'Etang Salé, to a consortium formed by Cenergi, SPIE Sud-Est, Bourbon Lumière and Enfrasys. This contract concerns three structures:
  • The Saint-Paul covered cutting (2 x 150 m),
  • The Piton Saint-Leu covered cutting (2 x 220m),
  • The La Houssaye tunnel (2x 300 m).

In particular, the following equipment is to be installed in these structures:
  • Three service rooms (HV, LV, converter and electrical distribution boards),
  • Wiring and cabling (83,000 m),
  • CTM system featuring six redundant PLCs and a supervision system,
  • Video monitoring system (14 cameras),
  • Emergency call system (14 emergency telephone points),
  • Lighting (1,450 fittings),
  • Fire-fighting system (8 fire points, a 60 m3/h booster pump and two 120 m3 tanks),
  • Metal elements and paint for the abutments (6,500 sq. m).

The necessary IT development and platform-based testing work is being conducted in mainland France by SPIE Sud-Est's transport and IT systems operational department (ARI). Project and site management services are being provided by the local contractor, Cenergi. This contract is worth a total of €6.5 million, of which €1.162 million is for work carried out be SPIE Sud-Est. The project began in May 2008, and is scheduled to run for 17 months. (*) The Tamarins Road is the largest construction project currently underway on Reunion Island.
